Solar and energy storage are rapidly being adopted by homeowners and Fortune 100 utilities at a rate unheard of for any type of power technology. Solar and energy storage together provide a carbon-neutral path to greater electrification of the entire economy - such as electric cars and advanced manufacturing.
The results are startling. The United States now has more than 50,000 megawatts of electricity generated. Solar installations have grown by an average of nearly 60 percent a year over the past decade, and prices have fallen by more than 50 percent in the past five years alone.
Investment in energy storage technology has increased as demand for electric vehicles has increased. More importantly, in early 2018, federal energy regulators opened the way for grid-side storage.
