The CASS report points out that China's energy demand trend is the biggest variable in the world
"It is expected that the world's new energy demand after 2014 will be further concentrated in China, India, southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa, and other countries and regions. China's energy demand trend will become the biggest variable in the world." That is the conclusion of the Report China's Outlook on World Energy (2013-2014), jointly published by the Institute of World Economy and Politics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Social Sciences Academic Press.
The report puts China's energy demand growth at 2.23 per cent between 2011 and 2035, higher than the 1.9 per cent growth under the International Energy Agency's new policy scenario. Over the same period, energy production grew by 1.97 per cent, also faster than the IEA's 1.4 per cent. On the whole, it has raised the level of world energy supply and demand, making China's energy supply and demand more prominent in the world energy supply and demand. By 2035, China's energy demand will account for 24% of the world's energy demand, while China's increase in energy demand will account for 38.5% of the world's increase in energy demand. It can be seen that China's energy demand growth in the future will have a greater impact on the world's energy supply and demand balance.
As for policy recommendations, the report suggests that energy efficiency should remain a priority for policy and industry investment until 2020, and that efforts to tap energy efficiency potential continue to be intensified. This is an important means for China to change rigid growth of energy demand into soft growth.
