China's manufacturing purchasing managers' Index (PMI) fell 0.3 percentage points in January from a month earlier to 51.3%, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Jan 31. But the PMI remained unchanged from a year ago, staying in a business climate range of 51.0% for 16 consecutive months.

Manufacturing PMI in January showed four characteristics: first, some industries entered the off-season, and supply and demand at both ends of the stable moderating. Second, due to the approaching of the Spring Festival and other factors, the growth of consumer goods manufacturing accelerated. Third, the increase in the purchase prices and factory gate prices of major raw materials again fell. Fourth, imports and exports have slowed down. Influenced by the early release of foreign market demand related to Christmas and New Year, the export in January was somewhat adjusted back. The index of new export orders was 49.5%, down 2.4 percentage points from the previous month.
It is worth noting that with the approach of the Spring Festival, the shortage of labor force in manufacturing industry has become apparent. In January, the proportion of enterprises reflecting this situation was 17.2%, up 2.4 percentage points from the previous month. In addition, 17.4 percent of export enterprises believed that the fluctuation of RMB exchange rate had a negative impact on their production and business activities, up 2.7 percentage points from the previous month.
Industrial robots will grow by more than 30 percent in 2018
