In 2013, the national power operation was safe and stable, and the overall power supply and demand balance. Overall electricity consumption grew 7.5% year on year, up 1.9 percentage points year on year. Electricity consumption by the tertiary industry and urban and rural residents continued to grow rapidly, with year-on-year increases of 10.3 percent and 9.2 percent respectively. The electricity consumption of the secondary industry increased by 7.0% year on year, while that of the manufacturing industry increased quarter by quarter. The electricity consumption growth of the four energy-intensive industries decreased first, then increased, and increased by 6.0% year on year. The growth rate of electricity consumption in the western region continued to take the lead, with the growth rate in all regions higher than that of the previous year. By the end of the year, China's installed power-generating capacity had become the largest in the world for the first time, reaching 1.25 billion kilowatts. The share of non-fossil energy in the total installed capacity had risen to 62 percent. The new installed capacity of hydropower had reached a record high. Wind power generation maintained a high growth rate, and equipment utilization hour increased by another 151 hours compared with the same period last year.
Looking forward to 2014, China's economy will continue to grow steadily. It is estimated that the GDP will grow by about 7.5% year on year, and the electricity consumption of the whole society will increase by about 7.0% year on year. By the end of the year, China's installed power generation capacity will be around 1.34 billion kw. It is estimated that there is an overall balance of power supply and demand in China, with a large surplus in northeast China, a certain surplus in northwest China, a tight balance in North China, and an overall balance in East China, Central China and south China.
